Paso Robles Tours Winery Spotlight:
Calcareous Vineyards
When visiting Calcareous Winery located on Peachy Canyon Road and the west side of Paso Robles your wine tasting experience is much like sitting on a cloud. At an elevation of 1550 feet and with sweeping 180+ degree views of the Paso Robles, on a clear day guests can see all that lies below for 50+miles.
Lloyd Messer arrived in the Paso Robles area in the late 90’s from Iowa. With no background in actually making wine but as an owner of a Wine distributorship, he understood the nature of people’s desire for great wine no matter where they lived. He was drawn to the 400 plus acre property where the winery now sits for its unique white Calcareous soil. He quickly determined that both the Rhone and Bordeaux varietals where the best choice for planting and, with the support of his daughter Dana, planted some 20 acres in 2000. Because of the rugged nature of the soil, they had to wait a bit longer for their first yield from their vines which they realized in 2006. Sadly, Lloyd passed away that same year leaving his daughters, Dana and Erika, to take up the challenge of bringing their fathers vision to fruition. With the support of their winemaker, Damian Grindley who understood the “link between calcareous soil and superlative wine” plus a team of dedicated longtime employees, they were able to turn Lloyd’s original vision for producing quality and distinctive wines into reality.
Today you will find both a great full bodied fruit forward Meritage and the excellent Tres Violet rhone red blend as the featured wines along with some stunning individual varietal offerings on the tasting menu. There is quite a buzz about the '07 Reserve Mourvedre which is disappearing vey fast.
Just a few Calcareous wines are currently distributed in limited quantities both in the Midwest, California and Washington. Most of the small production, unique, wines can only be found at the Tasting room. We strongly suggest you not miss the opportunity to take these gems home and enjoy with family and friends. For those who are planning a trip to Paso Robles wine country, Cloud Climbers strongly recommends you take the time to visit this most unique family run boutique winery.

Bed & Breakfast Spotlight:
Chanticleer
While peace and serenity are both to be found in abundance here in Paso Robles, your home away from home can be found at a quaint little Bed and Breakfast called Chanticleer. Located just minutes from the 101, Chanticleer sits one mile so off highway 46 and backs up to its own small vineyard, which guest may stroll at their leisure.
Your owners and hosts, Carolyn Stewart-Snow and Roland Snow have committed themselves to providing the very best in first class service and comfort that are sure to make your stay one to remember. Having lived in the area for the past twenty years, the quality of life provided Carolyn and Roland with all the reason they needed to buy the property the Chanticleer now sits on back in 1995. They planted their vineyard in 1996 and realized their first harvest in '98. The Syrah, Petit Syrah, and Zinfandel grapes they harvest each year are turned into some truly spectacular wines by Grey Wolf Cellars which located just down the road. Their 2006 Chanticleer Cuvee was rated a 92 by Robert Parker this year.
The Chanticleer B&B includes three beautifully appointed suites, each with its’ own private entrance. Together, Carolyn and Roland have taken on a new project, reconverting their vineyard barn into a private recreational facility for the exclusive use by their guests. Carolyn’s culinary skills and use of healthy home grown ingredients in all she prepares is something that guests who share their included breakfast will not soon forget.
The Chanticleer is environmentally friendly with 80% of the energy it requires to operate provided by solar power. In addition, they use only organic cleaning and spa products.
